Puerto Vallarta fly fishing

Puerto Vallarta fly fishing
The most popular and consistent fish to catch on the fly in Puerto Vallarta is Jack Crevalle. You can also target Amberjack, Bonitas, and Roosterfish inside Banderas bay and off the point of Punta de Mita.  For more experienced Salt water fly fisherman you can catch bigger Roosterfish, Dorado, Sailfish, Tuna, and Marlin offshore.

Puerto Vallarta fly fishing report
I decided that I would charter a boat in order to go fly fishing in Puerto Vallarta. I emailed various charter outfits and the only one with experience was PV Sportfishing. I wanted an experienced skipper and needed to use his equipment. I spent 4 hours on the super panga fishing about 100 yards behind the surf line. The boat was a 29 ft. super panga, which was extremely comfortable. Caesar put me right on several schools of Toro which translates to bull but is a Jack Crevalle in English. I landed about 4 or 5, all in the 10-15 lb. range.  With a 7 weight rod, this was a fabulous experience. Next trip I'll try for a full day and seek Marlin, billfish and/or tuna and will charter a larger boat

Puerto Vallarta fishing report February 2017

Puerto Vallarta fishing report February 2017

The Puerto Vallarta water has been cooling down and we are starting to see more winter fish like Striped Marlin and Roosterfish. The Roosterfish have been biting off the point and dow south and the Striped Marlin mostly have been caught offshore. Inside Banderas bay there has been lots of Spanish Mackeral, and Jack Crevalle, offshore at el banco and corbetena we have seen few Blue Marlin still left at Corbetena and el Banco along with Football sized Yellowfin Tuna as well. read full Puerto Vallarta fishing report February 2017
